Time corrupts my interest in things, or at the very least my passion. I’m still absurdly psyched about gardening, plants, vegetables, eating healthy, etc; but the side projects - this, Abby’s blog, moving to the middle of nowhere and becoming a rough-and-tumble farmer - have fallen very much to the wayside. whoops.

THE ZUCCHINI’S ARE TAKING OVER! No, seriously, they’re f***ing huge. I dunno if there is gonna be any room for the bean plants, I’m a little bit worried. Hopefully love will find a way. The tomatoes are getting huge too, and I mean, actual honest-to-God fruit. I’m getting pretty excited. In other news, I haven’t watered them for almost three days because...

Well, it’s been too long since I’ve updated you on the goings on of my little corner of the world. Have you missed me? My zucchini’s are growing like weeds, both tomatoes are beginning to flower and growing well. The beans are going well, and the eggplants are…growing steadily? They’re not huge, but I also sort of have them squashed (get it?) together a little...

It’s a good thing I’m raising plants and not children because I would be an asshole of a father. It’s not that I abuse them, or neglect them, I just put all my other priorities before them. Whoops. That being said, I now officially have a container garden on my roof. (http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3013/2550878131_d6626a9d5e.jpg?v=0)

This week has been retarded, BUT I did get all the soil I need, and as soon as I get home from work today, them bitches is goin’ in the ground. I need to take photos and do a blog for Abby, it’s been too long.

I think I’m gonna stop procrastinating tomorrow (ha) and transplant all the seedlings into containers. That means I have to get dirt, and potentially some more containers, but it’s definitely time…I could harden them off more, I’m sure, but whatever…only the strong will survive. In other news, it’s def becoming farmer’s market season so I need to find...

woooow fried green tomatos are amazing. i got sweet bologna from grass-fed beef (also amazing), chocolate yogurt from pequea farms, sweet potatoes, butter milk…yummm…i found bulfinch’s mythology at the book store there, too, which is amazing. I’m pretty excited at how this day is starting.
5.20.2008
i’m kind of getting sick of chicken salad. It’s all gone, just in time, too. I ate it for all three meals today ugh :{ i also had my plants outside to harden off today, and left them out there while i was at work…whooops. when I got back they were a little waterlogged, but not too much worse for the wear (hopefully - i guess i’ll see tomorrow morning if there were any...

I can’t believe how fast time passes. How is it the middle of May already?! More on point, that chicken salad is also easy to take to work so that makes it a triple word score. I can keep it 3-4 days according to this article, but I’m not sure how long it can be out of refrigeration (and in my bag) and still be good…I don’t think a few hours will hurt it. famous last...

why do i never use this anymore? grrrrrr. i’m seriously about ready to stop using computers all together. WIth the meat from the chicken I roasted the other day, I made curry chicken salad with a mix between these two recipes: http://www.grouprecipes.com/46476/curried-chicken-salad.html http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/106566 In all, it had chicken, raisins, pineapple chunks,...

I feel like the seedlings have grown so fast, but now they’ve hit a wall. I think they need to go outside pretty soon. I started putting them outside to “harden off” and found this article which does a pretty good job of explaining the process. I think if I have everything planted by the 25th of May I should be in good shape.
5.14.2008
lots of yogurt, i’m craving it the past few days for some reason. I almost ate toast, but i forgot it was being broiled and it ended up black. whoops. I pan fried a fish filet (idk what it was…it was in the back of my freezer…whoops again?) with salt, israeli pepper (from spice corner…it’s pretty good), and cayenne pepper, with mushrooms and onions sauteed in sake....

5.09.2008
apple, h2o pizza (which burned the top of my mouth so badly it’s still blistered. OW!) boiled chicken, white rice
5.08.2008
The past few days have been crammed with too many things to do…I need to order shade screens and get soil pretty soon because I’m going to start transplanting everything in the next week or so, I think. Egg Fritatta with onion and capicola, h2o iced tea, apple quizno’s roast beef hoagie (it’s cheap and I’m broke, sorry) 2 lager’s, 1 manhatten
5.07.2008
I had a salad and a lot of water this morning. the salad was just lettuce, white onion, and cappicola with oil and vinegar on it but it was really quite good. I think i’m going to have sushi at Vic’s for lunch. Yumm. In fact I did have sushi. http://www.tsflowers.com/html2/peppermint.html - buy that http://www.diet-and-health.net/Naturopathy/index.html - good botany website

as i figured, I didn’t keep up with blogging this weekend. this morning i had a glass of orange juice, a glass of pomegranate juice, a wheat bagel and green tea at the bus station, and a whole bottle (!) of green food juice from trader joe’s at work. so i didn’t go into today thinking of starting a juice fast, but…well who knows. it wouldn’t be the worst thing to...

Soooo lets see. plants are working. i trimmed the straglers of the eggplants today b/c the first “true leaves” showed up on all the plants. I was surprised…for the tomatos and eggplant i planted three seeds per peat cup and in almost every case I had three sprouts per cup. Gooooo ducks! err…dax! Apple, hash browns, two eggs, poached (i would have killed for toast but...

I went to Reading Terminal this morning…my mental clarity has been off the charts today. I’m feeling very creative with nothing to attribute it to, so i’m just gonna say it’s my diet. deal? deal. breakfast: apple lunch: meatball sandwich lunch later: mac and cheese, apple dinner-ish: blueberry yogurt (editor note: i think it’s funny i said “my mental clarity...

I’m so tired. I left Chadd’s house at 7:15 and was back in the city by 8, grabbed a shower and now I’m at work. I’m here till 12:30-1, then I have to catch the 3:45 train to Chestnut Hill to bartend. Acchhhh. I’ve eaten so poorly the past few days. I need to punch myself in the face a few times. In other news, I’m def gonna do a fast soon…I think my...

This is my “on” weekend to work, so I’m gonna be pretty pressed for time, but I think I should be pretty much set. I have enough mac and cheese to last for a while, and I’m gonna make soup out of the left overs from the Indian food we made last night. I might go camping next weekend (fingers crossed), so I need to think of some food that would be appropriate for that. ...

I’m making mac and cheese with cheddar, parrano and provolone. I’m gonna take a picture when it’s done…There’s so much cream, butter and cheese in there it’s bound to be the most amazing thing ever. Damn, I’m excited. breakfast: apple lunch: little bit of mac and cheese and a clifbar dinner: Primo hoagie!!! (and a root beer. that’s the first...

I made pancakes again this morning with much better results. I made the batter a little more liquid, so the pancakes weren’t nearly as dense. Plus, instead of taking an hour to make them (okay maybe not that long), it only took about 15 minutes. Mmmmm pancakes. I’ll be psyched when fresh fruit gets here. In other news, I had to cut a new notch in my belt yesterday because it...

I had steak and mushrooms in some crazy orange marmelade/wine/balsamic sauce. It was actually much better than i thought it would be considering how terrible that sounds. I also accidently baked a sweet potato for like 2 hours, but when I did remember it, it was freaking delicious. lunch: steak/mushrooms/sweet potato dinner: burger/beer green tea @ chapterhouse
4.21.2008
i made pancakes for breakfast after getting awesome supplies at reading terminal yesterday. i f***ed up the recipe a bit, but they were still good, and now i know what needs to be done for the future. late breakfast: wheat/spelt pancakes with caramelized apples late lunch: veggie hoagie (portobello mushrooms and cheese with onion, tomato, and peppers) dinner-ish(?): slice of Lorenzo’s...
4.20.2008 (whooaaaa dude, it's blowing my mind!)
Didn’t make it to Reading Terminal yesterday, but I did go to the most amazing show of my life. I shit myself not, I think that was one of the more unique/amazing experiences I’ve had….And whoever owns that place needs to be my sensei. He had the most amazing library I have EVER seen. I got a bunch of good stuff from reading terminal yesterday, including what i need to make...

rush rush rush. i wanna go to reading terminal, i need to do something about these plants, and the damn worms are about to get firebombed. rawr! and subsequently, they were firebombed, that thing stank and I’m glad that it’s out of my life frankly. Maybe I did something wrong, maybe those worms were no good lazy bastards, but in either case, it was working like it should have....

WAH. yesterday was a blur, and I’m busy again today. I’ll maybe fill this in later, if not, just pretend this day didn’t happen and we’ll be fine. yeah…pretty sure I don’t care to fill this in. but I will say that I bought book at 10,000 villages and it’s pretty awesome.
4.17.2008
All my plants have sprouted, I’m thinking that I’ll need to transplant in about a week or two. I can plant beans after the last frost (which if I’m not mistaken is somewhere around May 10th?) and they just go right in the soil. I got two decently sized (I’m gonna say 1’ x 2’) plastic containers, a cat litter bucket, and no small amount of strange looks while...
4.16.2008
Yesterday before work, I went to the hardware store and built a lil’ shelf that I attached to the outside of my bedroom window. I wanted to put the herbs I bought in hanging baskets outside of my kitchen windows, but I don’t think they’ll get enough light. There’s not light out of my window all day, but it’s strong full sun for at least half of the day. ALL of my...

I’m pretty sure I’m starting to get sick. The back of my throat hurts and I’m pretty congested. I wrote it off as allergies first, but I don’t think that’s it. I’m interested to see how changing my diet will affect my recovery time (if at all)…and honestly I’m kinda bummed that I even got sick. I kinda figured eating well would have gotten me...

I should really start writing an update for Abby’s blog. I’d do it at Chapterhouse but that place is always packed on Sundays….Maybe I’ll walk over and check it out anyway. I kinda wanna go to blarney tonight to see Dave Falcone play. He told me he was gonna learn some new Dylan songs…. I went to the plant place and got some herbal goodness that i’m gonna try...

After talking with Abby, I put some additional bedding in the worm bin and that seemed to work, at least as a quick fix till I have time to do a better job. So today is one month since I’ve changed how I eat and live. It’s rewarding, but holy SHIT is it annoying. I completely understand why I always ate out of convenience before - this is time-consuming and difficult. Maybe...

Tomorrow is the one month anniversary of starting this diet…should I take myself out to dinner? I weighed myself when I was at my parents yesterday: 148.5 that means that since Easter (almost three weeks) I lost 7 pounds. That’s quite a lot, I think. I don’t think I’m being unhealthy, and yesterday was the first time I drank any booze in a few days, which is pretty...

9:27: I wish I could just go back to sleep. I was having crazy dreams. Fredrick Nietzche was trying to shoot at me. weirrrrd late: Today I came home for Tim Petrow’s memorial service. I was with a lot of different people in a lot of different places, so I didn’t have regular options for food, but I think I still ate pretty well. I can’t really remember everything tho :\...

10:49 - I didn’t bring cash with me to work and I forgot my debit card. DAMN. Guess I’m eating fast when I get home. I’m going to the Man Man show tonight and then home tomorrow for a funeral/memorial service. Sad face. That to say I’m gonna be pressed for time, like usual. The seed starting process seemed to go well, although while I was planting them, the thought...
